Match Report 4th Nov Under 12 Premier in the SFAI Cup

Match Report

Woke up on Sunday morning, rain lashing against the window, no way there wouldbe any football today I thought. Got a text from Donal, great match off  I hoped “What time will I pick you up at” read the text, so off we went out to Corduff for a second round match in the Under 12 SFAI Cup. When we arrived, the pitch was in great nick, bit of water in the goalmouth’s but that was easily brushed away.

The Under 12’s play 9 a Side in the NDSL, but in the SFAI, it’s 11 A Side, so we had to bring a couple of 2nd team players and 1 x Under 11 player to fill in the numbers. We were not looking forward to the game, we hadn’t beaten Corduff since Under 8’s and had only recently been 6-1 out there in the League. 11 a side is a different game though, and we tried to get the kids up for the game by reminding them how well they played against them in the Corduff pre season tournament. In the game itself, we started quite well and had the better of the first 15 mins, creating a couple of clear chances for Oisin Gannon. The first just went by the post and the 2nd being brilliantly saved by the Corduff keeper. We were keeping it very tight at the back, with Goalkeeper Dean McDermott,Luke Kelly, Lee Troy, Robert Kiely and especially Corey Power putting in a great shift. We were also on top in the midfield with Ben Moloney, Nathan Fallon, Alex Ceitner and Donovan Troy all doing there bit to get Liam McGrath and Oisin Gannon in on goal.

Half  time, nil all, everything to play for. Bradley Rogers on for Ben on the right side of midfield. Some great tackles  from  both teams, but 10 mins into the half great work by Donovan Troy and Liam McGrath put Oisin in on goal, showing great composure for someone of his tender years (only 10) he rounded the keeper and was about to slot it into the net, when he was taken down by the keeper. “Peno” we all shouted and the Ref pointed to the spot. Oisin placed the ball on the spot and buried it into the net. 1 Nil Woodlawn and 10 mins later Donovan Troy broke down the left wing, cut inside and scored a glorious goal from the edge of the box. 2 nil, 10 mins left, game over  ?, not by a long chalk, only starting to tell the truth. 5 mins to go, Corduff scored, 2-1, time to bring on Gavin O Brien (only 9, but what a player) moved Oisin to right side and played Gavin up top with Liam. Last minute, corner to Corduff, just hold out for one more minute. Ball into the box, mad scramble, someone sticks a foot out, ball in the net. 2-2. Extra Time.

Heads down, everyone disappointed, Donal did a great job in getting them focused for the extra time. Still a great game, long ball down the left from Corduff, ball into the box, “Goal” 3-2 to Corduff, game over ? not a chance. 2ND Half of Extra time, 2 mins to go, Corner to us, everybody up, get the ball into the box, hope to get a nick on it, or so we thought. Liam, played a short corner to Alex (what are they up to we thought)   Alex dummied to play it back to him, beat two players and pulled it back to Robert Kiely on the six yard box, bang, ball in the back of the net, great goal (worked on it in Training, NOT) 3-3, down to the dreaded Peno’s. Up stepped Alex, great save by the Corduff keeper. Up stepped Dean, to make a great save . Then Luke,Oisin, Liam and Donovan all scored, but so did Corduff 4-4, Sudden death, up Stepped “Man of the Match” Corey Power, bang, 5-4, all up to Dean now, what a save, diving full length to the right, he got a strong hand on it. Game over. What a match. Couldn’t go through that every week, glad Niall is back this week. Well done to all the lads
